Our little superstar Clouds Rest gave her owners a day out
to remember on Wednesday 18 June. The 'Pocket Rocket', or
'Malton Midget' as the Racing Post dubbed her in their race
preview, took on the fastest fillies from Britain, Ireland
and America in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot. As
always she pinged out of the stalls and gave everyone a real
thrill as her white face showed up at the head of the field
for the first three furlongs. Even when the field came past
her she found a bit more, until Paul Hanagan accepted defeat
and wisely eased down in the final furlong. She did herself
and all her owners proud!
This summer Plumpton Racecourse is undertaking work to
upgrade the parade ring, winners enclosure and main
entrance, which will be unveiled on Sunday 22 September, the
start of Plumpton’s new season. Improvements include:
Rancho Montoya has been a bit of a diva at Andrew
Balding’s yard. She will only work on the treadmill and
has to be boxed to the gallops! However there was no sign of
these antics when she made her debut at Kempton on 19 June.
Badly in need of the run, she ran a great race to finish
fourth. Members cheered her on from their very own viewing
box. With improvement to come, she has a bright future and
is declared to run at Kempton on 6 August.
