Ten To Follow Update 08.05.2019

Posted 2 years ago

The 2018/19 Jumps season has come to an end, and the final week of racing didn’t disappoint. The final Ten to Follow update of the competition includes:

  • Action from the Perth Festival
  • Altior makes it 19 wins in a row
  • Our overall winner is announced

The point scoring action started up in Scotland at the Perth Festival and Go Another One was the first to strike under champion jockey Richard Johnson. Go Another One was clear at the last and ran on well to win by four lengths. The other Listed contest of the festival was won by My Old Gold and jockey Sean Quinlan, however neither of these horses were picked by players so no points were scored.

The season came to an end with the Jump Finale meeting at Sandown Park. The first point scoring race was the Grade 2 Oaksey Chase and saw Black Corton and Bryony Frost return to winning ways after a string of second place finishes, scoring 30 points for eight Ten to Follow teams.

The next race was the Grade 1 Celebration Chase and Altior got home in front to make it 19 consecutive wins. He was joined by Sceau Royal going over the last but stayed on strongly on the flat to win by two and a half lengths. This was the final bonus race of the competition and scored 55 points for 239 teams.

The Grade 3 saw Talkischeap, and jockey Wayne Hutchinson put in an impressive performance to storm clear and win by ten lengths. Finally, jockey David Bass and Younevercall jumped well to win the Grade 2 hurdle race by nine lengths.

Ever since the beginning of the competition back in November it has been tight at the top of the leader board, and the final week of racing hasn’t changed this. Our joint winners, taking home £350 each, are Paul Timms and Johnathan Nuttall on 600 points apiece. In joint third, winning £50 each are Penny Waddell and Derek Latham on 575 points. The final standings can be found here.

Thank you to everyone that took part in our Jumps Ten to Follow competition, be sure to look out for the launch of our 2019 Ten to Follow Flat competition in our next Club magazine.
