The Racegoers Club are proud to have played a small part in Ryan Moore's achievement of riding 2,000 winners in Britain which included a win at Brighton in our colours in 2005.

Widely acclaimed as the top jockey in the world, Ryan Moore rode his 2,000th winner in Britain on Wednesday 5 July at Kempton Park on board Billesdon Brook. He is just the 21st jockey to achieve this feat and only the third of those still riding along with Frankie Dettori and Joe Fanning.

On 3 August 2005 though he rode one memorable winner on board Violet Ballerina for the Racegoers Club at Brighton in the seven furlong Maiden Fillies' Stakes for Brian Meehan.

Sent off 11/8 favourite having finished fourth in a Newbury Maiden on debut, it sounds like Ryan certainly earned his riding fee that day as the in running commentary reads:

"Held up, shaken up 4f out to join leaders, led and hung left approaching 2f out, just held on."

Violet Ballerina, sired by Group One Prix De L'Abbaye winning sprinter Namid, finished just a neck ahead of Desert Flair, owned by Her Majesty The Queen and ridden by Richard Hughes for Richard Hannon Snr.

Ryan rode Violet Ballerina on her next run as well at Doncaster in September 2005 where she finished fifth of 13 in a nursery. The next season Frankie Dettori rode her to finish fourth at Lingfield before she went on to win at Kempton Park (picture below) on 18 September 2006 under 7lbs apprentice claimer Kevin May with Ryan back in second that day on Calypso King.
