A New Star At Newmarket

Last week Newmarket welcomed a host of flat racing stars for the July Festival. The Darley July Cup was the feature race of the week, and was also a bonus race for TTF players. Three races at Newmarket, and two at York scored points for players:

Sir Ron Priestly put in a performance synonymous with Mark Johnston's horses, making all in the Princess Of Wales's Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket and holding off a challenge from hot favourite Al Aasy.

The Falmouth Stakes looked competitive with 100 Guineas winner Mother Earth and Coronation Stakes winner Alcohol Free both lining up. However, it was Snow Lantern that came out on top, getting redemption for her Dam Sky Lantern in the process.

The Darley July Cup looked set to be a cracker with 19 horses lining up for the Group 1 race. A number of horses were well fancied and Dragon Symbol set off as favourite. However, it as Starman that came out on top, overcoming some trouble in running to win by just over a length. This was trainer Ed Walker's first Group 1, and scored 55 points for 41 TTF players.

Up at York we saw Hukum win the John Smith's Silver Cup and Winter Power win the John Smith's City Wall Stakes.

Wins for Starman and Winter Power have moved David Marshall to the top of the leader board where he has 295 points. Full standings can be viewed here.
