Swiss Belle, 3-y-o filly by Swiss Spirit out of Belatorio
Our northern Flat Owners Group for 2018 is the second season for Swiss Belle trained by Richard Fahey in Malton.
Swiss Belle made a winning start to her career when she stormed home at Wolverhampton to win a six-furlong Novice Stakes race. She was given a very educational ride that day, and despite a slight amount of greenness, she stayed on strongly to win in good style.
Paul Hanagan, who rode her on debut and has ridden her plenty of times in work at home, was delighted with the performance and is convinced she will improve for it and get further than six-furlongs as well.
Richard Fahey said, “I’m really looking forward to the year ahead with Swiss Belle and although she didn’t run as a two-year-old she showed plenty of ability when winning on debut. We’ve always been pleased with what she does at home and I feel she’ll improve for that run from an experience point of view so we’re hopefully she can go on and give us all plenty of excitement and fun.”
Swiss Belle is bred by Whitsbury Manor Stud who the Racegoers Club have enjoyed remarkable success with in recent times. Having had four fillies from Whitsbury race in our colours, Swiss Belle was the fourth of them to record a win and keep up the 100% record. By Swiss Spirit and out of a mare called Belatorio there is plenty of speed in the pedigree while there is also stamina in the shape of Belatorio’s half-brother Sword Fighter who won the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot over 2m in 2016.
This Group will run from March 1 and is fantastic opportunity to get involved with a filly who has already shown her love for racing when she won on debut and she remains unexposed and exciting as a result. Buy your share for 2018 here for just £295.
Sire - Swiss Spirit
Swiss Spirit was a first season sire for 2017 but his progeny proved popular at the sales and performed well on the track with vendors respectful of Whitsbury Manor Stud's excellent record with freshmen sires in recent years. Richard Fahey was one expert eye taken with several of them. Swiss Spirit himself was a high class sprinter, winning a Group Three and finishing second in two Group Twos. He hails from a prolific family of Sprinters with his siblings including Swiss Diva, Swiss Dream and Swiss Franc all achieving black type wins and his half-brother (by Frankel) Swiss Storm looks set to add to that impressive family album this year. Our Filly certainly looks to have taken her compact muscular shape straight from her sire.
Dam - Belatorio
Swiss Belle's dam also has a great sprinting background and is from a family the Club has had great success with in recent years. Belatorio’s Dam Tarbella is sister to Tahara, dam of black type winners Godfrey Street and Gilt Edge Girl as well as Ahwahnee, (dam of our Glacier Point, Clouds Rest and Tamora ((Grand Dam to our Showbizzy)). Although Belatorio’s full brother (Royal Ascot and Black type winner) Big Audio won over a mile and her half brother (by Galileo) Sword Fighter, won a group 2 over 1m6 and at Royal Ascot over 2m. This filly is Belatorio’s first foal and it will be interesting to see whether she will carry more of the genes geared for speed, or more of those required for stamina.
Trainer - Richard Fahey
Richard trains from his Musley Bank base in Malton and is one of the powerhouses of the British training ranks with around 200 horses in training. Richard gives all his owners a great deal of attention with detailed and regular training updates. The yard is very laid back and friendly and a huge priviledge to visit on our owners days.
