Ascot 2

This week we were treated to some great racing from Ascot and Haydock, as well as the Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton. Despite there being eight scoring opportunities, only Waiting Patiently and Elgin had players on the scoreboard.

The weekend started off at Sandown on Royal Artillery Gold Cup day. Midnight Tune continued the good form of Anthony Honeyball scooping the Grade 2 prize.

Saturday winners and Bryony Frost have started to be synonymous and this week at Ascot was no different. Black Corton did a typical front running performance to secure his eighth win of the season. Then it was the turn of the Regal Encore to enter the winners enclosure and continue the great weekend for Anthony Honeyball. Finally at Ascot it was a poignant win for Waiting Patiently and the Jefferson family. In arguably the race of the season so far, Waiting Patiently cruised through the race and just managed to fend off the admirable Cue Card.

Over at Haydock, Donna's Diamond caused an upset by beating long-odds on favourite Agrapart. Then Yala Enki won the Grand National Trial for Venetia Williams, the same week Grand National winning jockey Liam Treadwell retired - Venetia's only Grand National win. In the penultimate race at Haydock, Nicky Henderson got his regular weekend winner as Chef Des Obeaux won the Albert Bartlett trial very cosily.

Finally, over at Wincanton, Elgin enhanced his Champion Hurdle credentials with a smooth success in the Kingwell Hurdle.

Be sure to check back next Wednesday for the scores.
