Ten To Follow Final Scores

The Jumps season is now over and what a year it has been. The results are in and Gail Garbutt shot clear after the last and won with something in hand on 710 points and winning the £600 first prize. Mervyn Broom was second best with 655 points and securing £250 for the runner up spot. Third was also a close run affair as David Walters, Mervyn Broom and Terry Knight all finished on 650 points all getting £50 each.

It has been another memorable year of racing with Altior confirming his promise of last year and becoming a true great of the game, yet to lose over hurdles or fences. Buveur D’Air reaffirmed himself as the top two-mile hurdler and Footpad versus Altior looks as though it could be a mouthwatering clash next year.

There has also been some coming and goings of greats. Faugheen bounced right back to form when stepped up to three miles and it will be exciting to see what happens with him next year. We also wished the people’s horse, Cue Card, a very happy and well-deserved retirement.

The season finale at Sandown Park was another great day of racing. Top Notch showed the benefit of bypassing Cheltenham and Aintree with a commanding victory. Always handy, Top Notch took up the lead at two from home and was in command when jumping left at the last before staying on strongly up the hill.

Then it was the turn of the mighty Altior to round off his season in style and gain the final bonus points of the year. He tracked the leading pair, made his challenge on the inside after three out, went left at the next and was ridden between the last two before staying on strongly to assert close home.

The final scorer of the day was Call Me Lord, who put his course form to good use as he ran out a commanding 16 length winner. Only one player, Ray Horne, had Call Me Lord which nearly made him finish in the money.
